Here are the top three stories in Roanoke today:

  1. In a visit to Roanoke, newly instated Governor Glenn Youngkin announced a COVID Action Plan and a new Executive Order. Check out Youngkin's plans to get more Virginians vaccinated against COVID-19, providing flexibility for healthcare workers, and adding more testing resources for Virginians. (WSET)

  2. The coldest weather in three years will arrive in Roanoke on Saturday. Any snow will be minor in the New River Valley, however, temperatures have the potential to drop to 8 degrees. Any slushy snow leftover from last weekend's snowstorm will most likely refreeze. Take care when traveling. (Roanoke Times)

  3. A man who was serving time at Deerfield Correctional Center for opening fire on a Roanoke gay bar over 20 years ago has died. Ronald Gay was serving back-to-back life sentences for injuring 6 and killing one at Backstreet Cafe in 2000. The Virginia Department of Corrections said Gay died of natural causes.
