Grab Your Person! ABC Renews ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ for Season 18

Grey’s Anatomy fans can finally let out a sigh of relief now that ABC has confirmed season 17 won’t be the show’s last. *Breaks into impromptu dance party*

After months of speculation, the network just renewed Grey’s Anatomy for season 18, according to Variety. ABC revealed that several series regulars—like Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber)—will reprise their beloved roles.

The news might surprise some fans, since Pompeo previously hinted that Grey’s Anatomy might come to an end after season 17. “I mean, this is the last year of my contract right now,” she told Variety. “I don’t know that this is the last year? But it could very well could be.”

It didn’t help that multiple fan-favorite characters—including Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca) and Jesse Williams (Jackson Avery)—have already confirmed that they won’t be returning after season 17. Say it ain’t so!

Not to mention, the new Grey’s Anatomy episodes have featured cameos by several departed cast members, like Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd), T.R. Knight (George O’Malley), Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey) and Eric Dane (Mark Sloan). Although it seemed like a farewell tour for Meredith, it’s safe to say that her story isn’t over (at least not yet).

Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursday at 9 p.m. on ABC.
