SINGAPORE - Introverts rejoice! Grab has officially launched the 'Quiet Ride' feature in Singapore.

Passengers who are tired of upholding conversations while on a ride can pick the 'Quiet Ride' option, which was first trialled across the Causeway late last year.

The feature will inform drivers of a passenger's preference for minimal conversation.

'Quiet Ride' feature details

Essential communication such as name confirmation, trip details and urgent questions will still be carried out, as well as casual greetings like 'hello'.

Grab drivers may choose to play music or the radio, as well as pick up phone calls while on the trip. Should passengers prefer some peace, they may politely ask to turn the volume down.

How to check for confirmation of 'Quiet Ride' feature

To confirm whether your ride is a 'Quiet Ride', look out for a message on GrabChat that will be sent upon ride booking.

You can also check whether the 'Quiet Ride' toggle is turned on under the preference menu when booking.

Once opted in, your 'Quiet Ride' preference will be saved for every eligible ride. Should you decide to opt out, it will become the default for future rides.

Netizens express mixed reception

Singaporeans were quick to comment with mixed reviews on social media about the 'Quiet Ride' feature, sharing their thoughts on Grab Singapore's post on it.

Some were receptive to the new feature, while others expressed concern for the safety of drivers who may rely on conversations with passengers to stay awake.

Some netizens also jokingly asked if discounts would be provided for riders if drivers talk.

Others suggested implementing a 'sing song' feature where riders can be entertained by driver's singing.

The feature, which also launched formally in Malaysia recently, is now available all Grab users in Singapore using GrabCar and JustGrab.

According to Grab's website, the 'Quiet Ride' function is currently unavailable for GrabShare and GrabHitch.
