SINGAPORE — Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu was elected unopposed as president of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) at its extraordinary general meeting at the Singapore Sports Hub on Friday (5 January).

Fu, who was co-opted to serve the council's executive committee in October last year, will hold office for the term ending 2026 as SNOC's 10th president. The 59-year-old had previously overseen Singapore's sports agenda from 2015 to 2020, when she served as the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth.

Fu will take over the reins from acting president Jessie Phua, who will resume her duties as vice-president. Phua had assumed the acting president position following the resignation of previous president Tan Chuan-Jin, after he had stepped down from his positions at the People's Action Party and as Speaker of Parliament last July.

“I am thankful for the privilege to serve the SNOC and the Olympic Movement," Fu said in an SNOC media release on Friday. "I hope we can continue to work together with our NSAs (national sports associations) and stakeholders to realise the potential of our athletes to bring Singapore sport to greater heights and continue to create opportunities for our athletes to represent Singapore at the major Games."
