Gracelyn Leiseth now holds state's all-time records in both the girls' discus and shot put

Hamlin High School senior throws standout Gracelyn Leiseth broke the all-time South Dakota state record in the girls' discus with a throw of 171 feet, 8 inches in the Menno Relays on Thursday, April 13, 2023. Kellyn Kortemeyer of Custer set the record (165-11) in last year's state meet. Leiseth also holds the all-time state record in the girls' shot put (52-6.75).

MENNO — Hamlin senior Gracelyn Leiseth broke the all-time South Dakota state record in the girls' discus with a throw of 171 feet, 8 inches on Thursday in the Menno Relays.

Leiseth already held the state record in the girls' shot put (52-6.75) and moved to the top of the all-time charts in the discus, breaking the mark of 165-11 by Custer's Kellyn Kortemeyer in the 2022 state track meet.

Leiseth also won the shot put on Thursday with a throw of 47-6.25.

The University of Florida recruit is a two-time South Dakota Gatorade Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year and has been named to the Class A girls most valuable field events athletes at the 2021 and 2022 state track and field meets.
