Graduation season hits Hillsdale County

Across Hillsdale County, many high schools are holding graduations in the coming weeks as communities gather to celebrate graduating seniors.

Pittsford Area Schools held graduation May 22 and had 29 graduating seniors.

Hillsdale Community Schools has two high schools within its district: Hillsdale High School and Horizon Alternative School.

Hillsdale High School has the largest graduating class in the county with approximately 104 graduates.

Christina Bernard, secretary at the Hillsdale High School, said the school doesn't yet know the exact number of the graduating seniors due to graduation requirements.

“We are still figuring out exact numbers with classes ending on Wednesday, so those are just approximate numbers,” Bernard said.

Horizon Alternative School is the second high school in the Hillsdale Community School district and has eight graduates.

The Hillsdale High School will hold graduation Sunday, while the Horizon Alternative School is holding graduation on Saturday.

Jonesville Community Schools will have approximately 70 graduates graduating on June 5.

“This is our seniors’ last week of school,” said a statement from the school released this week.

The high school for Reading Community Schools is Owens High School.

Kate Kerspilo works in the high school office at Reading Community Schools and said the school is graduating 45 seniors.

Reading Community Schools will hold its graduation Sunday.
