A Grafton nurse helped save a man's life on New Year's Eve at a Port Washington bar
A Grafton nurse sprang into action to help save a man’s life when he collapsed at a Port Washington bar on New Year’s Eve.
Jen Stern, a nurse at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, was at the bar when 44-year-old Ryan Suetta collapsed, according to a news release from Advocate Aurora Health.
Stern performed CPR on Suetta until emergency responders arrived with a defibrillator, the release said.
“I really think anyone in the health care field would have done the same thing,” Stern said in a statement. “It made me know I chose the right path.”
Suetta was taken to Aurora in Grafton where cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Scott Johnson performed a triple bypass.
“He should have a great recovery,” said Johnson in a statement. “It’s important to remember if you have any unusual chest pain or neck pain or arm pain to get that checked out sooner rather than later. Heart disease can sneak up on you.”
Suetta, of Cincinnati, was visiting his family during the holidays.
On Jan. 13, Suetta thanked Stern and the care team when he was discharged from the hospital.
“Not a lot of people get to meet the person who saved their life,” said Suetta. “She really did save my life.”
