Graham threatens to take fight over Fulton grand jury subpoena to US Supreme Court

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is threatening to take his fight against a Fulton County grand jury to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The grand jury is investigating whether former President Donald Trump and his associates engaged in criminal interference in Georgia’s 2020 presidential election.

In a now infamous phone call in 2020, Trump asked Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger if he could “find” thousands more votes to overturn now-President Joe Biden’s win in the state.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team have said they want to ask Graham about two phone calls they say he made to Raffensperger and his staff shortly after the 2020 general election. During those calls, Graham asked about “reexamining certain absentee ballots cast in Georgia in order to explore the possibility of a more favorable outcome for former President Donald Trump,” Willis wrote in a petition seeking to compel his testimony.

Graham has been attempting to squash his subpoena, but so far has been unsuccessful.

Graham’s legal team is now asking the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to block a lower court order for him to testify in a Georgia grand jury.

The attorneys will seek an emergency stay at the U. S. Supreme Court if the motion is not granted.

Graham has been arguing that all of his conversations about the Georgia election should be shielded from the jury’s questioning.
