Grambling basketball's Prince Moss selected to compete with Harlem Globetrotters

After graduating from Grambling State University in December, Prince Moss was pondering his future when an opportunity to play for the 2022 Harlem Globetrotters arose.

The former Tiger standout was selected with the Globetrotters’ third pick in the Tuesday draft and he’s now on his way to playing with arguably the most famous basketball team in the world.

“I’m super excited. My mom is from New York and I grew up going to watch the Globetrotters play,” Moss told The Shreveport Times. “I’m still looking into options of playing overseas, because I have a competitive side. But I want to see where this takes me.”

He played for Tigers’ assistant coach Kyle Jones, who said Moss was one of the best he’s ever coached.

“Prince is so full of energy and full of life,” Jones said. “As a coach, you always wanted a lot of Prince Mosses on the team. If he calls, I always pick up because it’s going to be something good.”

Moss played at Fort Dodge Community College before transferring to Grambling. In his final season, Moss played in 28 games, averaging 26 minutes. He shot 34% from the floor, averaging 7.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals. In his career, he played in 118 games, averaging 8.0 points and 3.5 boards.

In addition, Moss most recently competed in the NCAA Division I East Preliminaries in the high jump where he finished 19th.

“This young man turned his high-flying dunks into high-flying jumps,” Globetrotters coach “Sweet” Lou Dunbar said in a release.

In April, Moss played in the first nationally televised HBCU All-Star Game as a member of Team Clarence “Big House” Gaines.

Founded in 1928, the Harlem Globetrotters’ history is rooted in Black culture with many of its former members being alumni of historically Black colleges. Some noteworthy HBCU alums include Fred “Curly” Neal (Johnson C. Smith), Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton (Xavier University of Louisiana) and Hubert “Geese” Ausbie (Philander Smith).

Of the players on the current Harlem Globetrotters roster, six attended HBCUs, including former CIAA Player of the Year Angelo Sharpless, who played at Elizabeth City State.
