Grammy-award winning musicians to play at Eastern

Aug. 26—WILLIMANTIC — A fall concert series featuring Grammy- award winning musicians will raise money for scholarships for Eastern Connecticut State University students.

The series, " Great Music Fostering Scholarship," will feature Take 6, a Grammy award- winning a cappella group, and Grammy winner Arturo Sandoval, a jazz musician.

" We're so excited to bring this music series to Eastern's beautiful concert hall and we're so grateful to David and Marilyn Foster and the Lester E. Foster and Phyllis M. Foster Foundation for their underwriting support," Eastern Vice President for Institutional Achievement Kenneth DeLisa said in a press release. " These concerts will raise a significant amount of money for local students with unmet need who will benefit in a significant way from scholarships in the future."

The Take 6 concerts will be held at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sept. 17.

The Arturo Sandoval concerts will be at 3 p. m. and 8 p.m. on Oct. 15.

Both concerts will be held in the concert hall at the Fine Arts Instructional Center at Eastern.

"Take 6 started at an institution of higher learning so it's always an honor and a pleasure to be involved in helping others achieve their goals," Claude McKnight, founder of Take 6, said in a press release. " We are humbled to be a part of helping Eastern Connecticut State University students receive scholarships to further their dreams."

The concerts are being funded by the ECSU Foundation and Lester E. Foster and Phyllis M. Foster Foundation, in association with Shaboo Productions.

All ticket proceeds will support the Kevin Crosbie Memorial Endowed Scholarship, which is named after a former Chronicle publisher.

It was established in 2015 with funding from the Foster Foundation and the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation. Kevin Crosbie's widow, Pat Crosbie, was involved with the establishment of the fund.

David Foster, who is executive director of the Foster Foundation, went to school with Kevin Crosbie and was a good friend of his.

" We grew up together," he said. " He was a great guy."
