EVANSVILLE – Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ryan Adams will open his fall solo tour with a show at Evansville's Victory Theatre, the venue announced in a news release on Tuesday.

Adams will play here on Sept. 5: the opening date for a string of solo shows he'll play between touring dates with his band, The Cardinals.

"The (solo) concerts will feature Ryan, his guitars and a piano in an acoustic tour-de-force," the release states.

Set lists are expected to include Adams' own hits, including "New York, New York," "Oh Sweet Carolina" and others, as well as a slew of covers. Adams recently released full cover albums of Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska" and Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks." In 2015, he did a track-by-track reworking of Taylor Swift's "1989."

Adams began his career with the alternative country band Whiskeytown before breaking into a successful solo career. In addition to touring around the world, he's appeared on "Saturday Night Live" and "The Late Show with David Letterman," among several others.

The tour is part of a comeback attempt for Adams. In a 2019 New York Times article, seven women, including singer Phoebe Bridgers and Adams' ex-wife Mandy Moore, accused him of harassment and manipulation. Some said he would pursue them romantically and then hinder their careers when they rejected him.

One person, identified only as "Ava," said Adams exchanged explicit text messages with her when she was a minor, leading to an FBI investigation. The FBI later found no evidence of wrongdoing, and Ava issued a statement saying that she was "not truthful" with Adams about her age, telling him she was older than she was, Los Angeles Magazine reported.

"There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I've mistreated people through my life and career," Adams said in a 2020 open letter. "All I can say is that I'm sorry."

He's since released six albums in the last three years – not counting the Springsteen and Dylan covers.

Tickets go on sale to Adams' fan club on Tuesday, and then are widely available starting Friday. Tickets can be purchased at the Ford Center box office or on Ticketmaster.
