Her 8-year-old son and musical partner, Darius, took interest in the cello at just 2 years old. Kalantari grew up in the Dominican Republic. Her childhood influenced her musical themes of resilience, community, and joy. Kalantari says that preserving her heritage is vital to her music. She records most of her songs in Spanish and English. When she won her first Grammy for Best Children’s Album for All The Sounds, she was presented with an award in the Dominican Republic. She won her second Grammy producing Joanie Leed’s children’s album, All the Ladies.
