Grand Chute hotel evacuated for hazardous materials in the pool area

A Grand Chute hotel was evacuated Wednesday following a hazardous materials incident in the pool area, the Grand Chute Fire Department said.

The incident took place at the Best Western Plus near the Fox River Mall on Federated Way around 5:18 p.m., according to Assistant Chief Kelly Hanink.

The hotel reopened as of 7 p.m. "An improper pool chemical mix occurred that caused the initial incident," the department said. "The chemicals have been isolated and the entire premise was checked for any unsafe conditions."

One person working on the pool system was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure, the department said.
