Grand Forks' Alerus Center on track to make profit in 2022
Jul. 14—GRAND FORKS — The Alerus Center is on track to make a profit for 2022, a highlight that comes as the 2023 budget is in the works.
During a joint meeting between City Council and Events Center Commission members, Alerus Center General Manager Anna Rosburg detailed the 2022 budget outlook and gave an overview of the 2023 budget.
After an operating profit of $190,775 in 2021
, the Alerus Center budgeted 2022 for a scratch year, with a loss of around $9,250. Despite budgeting for a loss, Rosburg said the facility is on track to have another profitable year.
Coming out of the pandemic, a three-year recovery plan was created to get things back on track. Rosburg said the facility was able to mitigate the damage from the pandemic and come out with a profit despite budgeting for a loss of $253,000.
"So we were really able to rebound quickly and we're hoping to keep that momentum going forward," Rosburg said.
For 2023, the facility is budgeting a profit of $109,000.
As of June, 185 events have been held at the Alerus Center. Roseburg said a healthy number of events for the facility is between 380 to 420. In 2021, it held 404 events; in 2023 it's budgeting for 415.
The facility's total indirect expenses as of May were $1,884,389, with a net operating income of $308,176 and a total gross projecting revenue of $11,826,980.
