Grand Forks Downtown Development Association hosts first UND Homecoming Pep Rally in Town Square

Sep. 29—GRAND FORKS — The Downtown Development Association — partnering with UND, the UND Alumni Association and Foundation, and UND athletics — on Wednesday hosted the first-ever Town Square UND Homecoming Pep Rally.

During the event, attendees enjoyed yard games and music in Town Square, the site of several recent improvements. The UND football team and cheer squad also were present.

Several attendees said they enjoyed the family-oriented aspect of the pep rally, including resident Steve Moser, who said he enjoyed how the event was geared toward everyone — though Moser added he's surprised this was the first year a pep rally has been held there.

UND students Claire Wagner and Anna Roaldson also enjoyed how families and students alike could attend.

"I think it's really an event where families can come and students and everyone can just get together," Wagner said.

Both also felt that it was a great way to connect UND with the community.

"I think it's a good way to bring the community together," Roaldson said.

Wednesday's event is one of the ways the DDA is working to further strengthen the bond between UND and the community.

In a previous interview with the Herald

, CEO Blue Weber said the DDA wants to continue fostering that relationship.

"Homecoming is an exciting and special time of the year for UND and we're excited to be part of it," Weber said in a press release. "The relationship between UND and downtown is vital to the success in cultivating a community that students love and want to live in."

The rally is one of the many events being held for UND's Homecoming week. On Saturday the Homecoming Parade will start at 9 a.m. on University Avenue, with the UND vs. Missouri State football game kicking off at noon at the Alerus Center.
