Grand opening for Crossroads Church Care Closet set for Nov. 4-5 in Perry

Crossroads Church is set to serve the Perry and surrounding communities through its Care Closet.

“We had a calling to do something for the community because there is such a need today,” said Chris Ruble, a member of Crossroads Church. “With the prices going up and up and up, this is right at the right time where we can really help families.”

The Care Closet’s grand opening will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 4-5 at Crossroads Church, 2810 First St. in Perry. Everything is free at the closet, including clothes, shoes, housewares and more.

“Crossroads’ motto is ‘We Exist to Serve,’ that was laid on our heart to do a free Care Closet,” Ruble said.

The closet will also be giving away free Bibles and a table will be set up where people can submit their prayer requests.

We’re not here to just give things away, we’re here for the community. To meet the needs of the community, to support them in any way we can,” Ruble said. “I think that our main goal is just to help people in need, not just with clothes but also spiritually.”

“That’s our hope that they will see Jesus in us,” added Caryl Leslie, a fellow Crossroads Church member.

The Care Closet will be open on the first weekend of every other month. Though Ruble and Leslie hope the word continues to spread so people know they can contact Crossroads if any special needs arise between the dates of the Care Closet.

Flyers were handed out at Crossroads’ recent Pumpkin Festival as well as a mobile food pantry.

“We’re hoping between those two things we’ll encompass not only our town but the areas around our towns so that way if there’s anyone in need, they’ll know about it,” Leslie said.

“I think we’ll go as far as we need to go. If we go to Adel, great, if we go to Waukee, great. Rippey, Bouton, Minburn, Dallas Center. Anywhere and everywhere,” Ruble said as everyone is welcome at the Care Closet.

Donations are also welcome, including clothing for men, women and children, kitchenware, small appliances, non upholstered furniture and tools. Donations that can’t be accepted include large appliances, electronics, stuffed animals, bedding, mattresses, upholstered furniture.

Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and on days the Care Closet is open.

Ruble and Leslie are looking forward to the grand opening of the Care Closet on Nov. 4-5, which will include treats and live music.

“I like the name of our closet. It’s care, I think that just speaks volumes,” Ruble said.

“We care about our community and the surrounding areas and the people,” Leslie added.
