Grandma's Angels supporters gather at luncheon to make life better for little ones

Longtime supporters and new friends alike gathered to ensure a happy holiday season for Palm Beach county's vulnerable children.

The seventh annual Grandma's Angels luncheon took place Nov. 29 at The Sailfish Club and benefited the Grandma's Place shelter for infants and toddlers.

Manda Galin and Jodie Schmitz were chairwomen for the afternoon, which began with a wine reception and silent auction.

After the sipping-and-spending, the crowd moved to the dining room, all done up in a wintry theme with white table linens and white orchids. for lunch and a live auction conducted by Neil Saffer.

Speaker Trent Liguori spoke from a brother's perspective on the adoption of "Lucas" from Grandma’s Place. Television news anchor Liz Quirantes was emcee.

Patti Hadden served as honorary chairwoman.

Committee members include Jane Bruno, Susy Burrowes, Patty Cooke, Amy Considine, Margaret Donnelley, Barbara Hollender, Eleanor Jones, Mary Lewis Moews, Toni O’Brien, Joan O’Connell, Christy Matias, Pamela Pike, Dina Rubio, Lisa Shapiro, Marcie Singer and George Swan, Jr.

Proceeds from the luncheon support Grandmas Place, an emergency foster shelter for children from birth to age 12, who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect; and its Family Support Program, which provides services to parents and caregivers of children with special needs including mentoring, training and respite care.
