Grandmother of boy killed in hit-and-run pleads for driver to come forward

Mar. 12—The grandmother of the 7-year-old boy killed last week by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bicycle near Shickshinny is pleading for the driver to come forward.

State police at Shickshinny said the driver of a dark pickup truck fatally hit Gabriel Bierly while he was riding his bike on Bonnieville Road in Huntington Twp. around 5:50 p.m. on March 5.

"He knows he did it," said Gabriel's grandmother Dawn Bierly.

Investigators have asked local automotive shops to be on the lookout for suspicious repair requests for dark-colored pickup trucks. Police said they believe the person who struck Gabriel is aware they did so based on the impact and manner in which the vehicle fled.

"He was so pretty. He was so cute. He was precious," Bierly said. "He was the prettiest little thing."

Bierly said Gabriel loved being outside and riding his bicycle. He has four siblings and his loss has been "unbelievably hard" on the family, Bierly said.

"I made five little dinner plates the other day and there's now only four little people," Bierly said.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 570-542-4117.
