Grandpa hit jackpot at Chumash Casino — then goes back and wins an even bigger prize

After a man claimed a little more than a half-million-dollar jackpot at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, he returned weeks later to try his luck again.

This time, he had his eye on the Chumash Casino’s largest jackpot in history — $1.3 million, the resort said in a July 5 news release.

“I came here to win it after winning the last one,” the Ventura County man said, according to the resort.

As he played “a progressive slot machine in the resort’s Higher Limits room” shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, he made one “lucky spin,” hitting the casino’s jackpot, again, the resort said.

“I was just surprised and very glad,” the man said.

As with his May jackpot win, the man, who visits the casino “every couple of months,” told the resort that he plans to share his winnings with his children and grandchildren.

“I’m going to pay for my grandkids’ tuition,” the man said. “My granddaughter, who turns 16 in September, is going to get a new car.”

Prior to this win, the largest jackpot claimed at the casino was $1,021,730 in 2014, according to the resort.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
