Grandy elected president of Sharpsville school board

Dec. 6—SHARPSVILLE — The Sharpsville school board appointed its officers for 2024 on Monday evening.

During the board's reorganization meeting, board member Darla Grandy was elected president with votes from board members Rosemary Ferguson, Kevin Setterberg, John Heutsche, Michael Garcia and herself.

Grandy defeated board member and former president Jerry Trontel, who received votes from board members Michael Lenzi, Brian Foltz, Margaret Hurl and himself.

In other business, Setterberg was elected vice president. Setterberg received five votes from Grandy, Ferguson, Garcia, Heutsche and Foltz.

Setterberg defeated Trontel and Lenzi for the position. Trontel only received three votes from Lenzi, Setterberg and Hurl, while Lenzi only received one vote from Trontel.

Former board member Ron Barnes previously served as vice president prior to the end of his term.

The board also approved its meeting schedule for 2024.

Although there was some discussion among the board's members about combining the work sessions and regular meetings into a single evening instead of holding two monthly meetings, the board approved a traditional schedule with separate work sessions and regular meetings.

Meetings will be at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, except for the January and February meetings, which will be held on the third Tuesday.

Work sessions will be at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. Meetings will be held in the Sharpsville Area Elementary School cafeteria, with no meetings scheduled for July.
