Granite Falls man arrested in rape, luring of 12-year-old

Detectives arrested a Granite Falls man earlier this month on suspicion of second-degree child rape and luring a minor.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit detectives arrested the 58-year-old at his home on May 2.

According to investigators, on Apr. 29, a 12-year-old was playing basketball with friends. When the ball rolled down the street, the child ran after it and was approached by a neighbor, who asked the child to come inside his house to help with his dog.

When the 12-year-old went inside, they were sexually assaulted by the neighbor, SIU detectives said. The attack was later reported to a parent, who called police.

As detectives investigated, they discovered witnesses who reported incidents of grooming behavior toward children by the suspect.

After his arrest, the man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail. He was being held on $250,000 bail, but on May 12, he was released after posting bail.

A judge barred him from having any contact with children while out on bail.
