Granite Falls Town Council awards contracts for first-ever splash pad

Kids in Granite Falls will have a new place to cool off next summer.

On Monday, the Granite Falls Town Council awarded three contracts for a splash pad project at the recreation center.

The first contract was given to Lail Builders in Hickory for site preparation, the second to Vortex Aquatic Structures International based out of Dover, Delaware, and the third to Aqua Underground based out of Marietta, Georgia.

Construction on the splash pad is expected to begin next month, and the entire project should be finished by May 2024.

Granite Falls Parks and Recreation Director Chad Raby said this project has been in the works for about three years, and he’s excited to finally get construction started.

“This has been a long and tiring process of planning, engineering, and design over the last three years, but finally we see light at the end of the tunnel,” Raby said. “Thank you to the Town Council for approving and supporting this project for the citizens of Granite Falls.”

The new splash pad will have ten raised features and 23 ground features, with restrooms and a walking path expected to be put in before next year’s spring sports season.
