Grant awarded for S-Line project

Aug. 15—RALEIGH — The North Carolina S-Line Mobility Hub Plan received $3.4 million for "continued planning and preliminary design work" of mobility hubs in seven communities along the S-Line, Deputy Secretary of Multi-Modal Transportation Julie White said.

A mobility hub is a multi-modal transportation switching station — one would be able to exit a train and all in the same area.

The S-Line would connect Henderson to Raleigh and Petersburg, Virginia.

Henderson committed $190,000 to the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant, which is handled by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

These hubs would maximize "connections and access" for "historically disadvantaged populations" and a "rapidly growing region in desperate need of alternative transportation enhancement," according to NCDOT.

"We would like to thank and congratulate the Town of Wake Forest for submitting the grant application," White said, "and the towns of Norlina, Henderson, Franklinton, Youngsville, Apex, and Sanford for financial commitments to this major milestone."
