Grant to boost city safety programs

Nov. 23—TIFTON — A new grant will provide some city departments with funding for needed improvements.

Acting City Manager Emily Beeman reported at the Nov. 21 Tifton City Council meeting that the city had received a $20,000 safety and liability grant through Local Government Risk Management Services.

The city human resources department applied for the grant.

Beeman said half of the grant will be allocated for new safety vehicles for the Tifton Department of Community Development.

The remaining funds would be distributed to the police department to supply it with "grab and go" bags for use in active shooter situations. The bags would contain supplies so an officer could obtain proper resources needed to deal with the event as quickly as possible.
