What Did You Miss?
Grantchester season 8 gave Will Davenport a bright ending after some recent personal troubles.
Played by Tom Brittney, the reverend caused the accidental death of a man while riding his motorbike earlier in the season. Will has since been tortured by guilt, turning to drugs and pushing his loved ones away, including pregnant wife Bonnie.
This evening's (15 February) finale marked the end of Brittney's reign as Grantchester lead, who's leaving the ITV period drama next season, making way for newcomer Rishi Nair.
What, how and why?
Upon returning to Grantchester a renewed man, Will announced to DI Geordie Keating that he'd finished with his pills and handed him the bottle. "I don't want them, get rid of them for me," he said, with his friend simply replying: "Right you are!" alongside a loving squeeze of the hand.
He proceeded to make it home right before Bonnie gave birth, too, promising that he'd never disappear again.
After some frantic corridor shuffling through the hospital, the couple's son James George Davenport was born. Will also managed to make peace with God before overseeing the precious newborn's christening.
What did Grantchester fans think on social media?
Following these heartwarming scenes, it seems like the Grantchester fanbase reacting via social media is clinging onto Will whilst they still can.
"We have Will for a bit longer so that's something. Don't think I'll ever be prepared for his exit at this point," wrote one of them. Another pair of Grantchester viewers added: "I love #grantchester more than words can say! @tombrittney sad to see you go but so excited to support your future projects - remember Will is always a part of your story now, he'll look out for ya, Grantchester never really leaves you!" and "@tombrittney will be sorely missed on #Grantchester. It's unthinkable without him."

What a tragic story in tonight's #Grantchester - at least Will & Geordie discovered the truth. And Will has returned to his lovely self! I think now he might forgive himself 🫶

I really really don't want @tombrittney to leave. He's everything to #Grantchester (plus don't let it be a bad ending for Will). I need him to stay now he's happy
