Granville Kiwanis Decorated Home Contest makes return in 2022

While many communities decorate their homes for the December holiday season, Granville brings out its best home décor in July.

Granville Kiwanis’ Decorated Home Contest will return this Fourth of July season.

The contest, which is going into its third year, was started in 2020 as a way to continue Granville’s Fourth of July celebrations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first place winner of the 2021 Granville Kiwanis Decorated Home Contest was the Summit Street home of Adam and Jenn Werner. The contest returns again in 2022.

Last year, nine households participated in the contest. Ken Cation, a member of Granville Kiwanis, said he expects to have around the same number of homeowners register to compete this year.

Contrary to the previous contests, there is no specific theme homeowners must follow this year. Kation said the judges are looking for patriotic, red, white and blue themed décor that accentuates the unique features of each home registered.

The judges will award a first place, second place and third place prize in the form of maple syrup the Kiwanis Club makes itself. First place takes the largest size, while second and third are awarded a smaller bottle of syrup.

The second place winner of the 2021 Granville Kiwanis Decorated Home Contest was the West Elm Street home of Jeff and Ali Rafter. The contest returns again in 2022.

To register, homeowners are asked to email granville4th2020@gmail.com by July 1 with their name, address and cell phone number. The judging process will begin on July 2 and take place from 9 a.m. to noon.
