Granville Middle School selected as Blue Ribbon School

Granville Middle School, part of the Granville Exempted Village School District, has beendesignated as an Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School for the year 2023 by theUnited States Department of Education.

This prestigious award, presented annually, celebrates the outstanding achievements of schoolsacross the nation. Being named a National Blue Ribbon School is a testament to the dedication,hard work, and unwavering commitment of our students, staff, parents, and the entire Granvillecommunity. GMS is one of 353 schools in the United States and one of 20 schools in Ohio to berecognized in 2023.

"The Granville community takes great pride in its public schools and realizes the importance ofmaintaining a high-achieving educational system," said Superintendent Jeff Brown. "Our currentdistrict, and exemplified by GMS, is a focus on student autonomy and well-being supported by ourPortrait of a Graduate – composite of our Values, combined with what mindsets, skills anddispositions we want our students to possess after their tenure within our district. Our selection as anExemplary High-Performing National Blue Ribbon School is a reflection of our ongoing pursuit ofacademic excellence and the success of our students in the classroom and beyond."

The U.S. Department of Education instituted the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program in 1982.Since then, it has already granted over 10,000 awards to more than 9,700 schools. Yearly, thereare up to 420 nominees for the program. Nominations come from the top education officials in allstates, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, the Department of Defense Education Activity,and the Bureau of Indian Education upon the invitation of the U.S. Department of Education.Private schools on the other hand are nominated by the Council for American Private Education.

The district will celebrate this achievement with students, staff, parents, and communitymembers in the coming weeks. The Department of Education has planned to recognize theschool’s success during the awards ceremony on Thursday, November 16, and Friday, November17, 2023, in Washington, D.C.
