GRAPPLER POWER: OKWU Eagles battle through busy weekend

Oklahoma Wesleyan University's strong wrestling squad took one on the chin last week against William Penn (Iowa), 28-18.

OKWU Eagle matters won half the matches -- but without any pins. Penn racked up four pins and a major decision to accumulate more points.

Victors for the Eagles included: Lane Cosby (133, dec., 6-4), Donte Lopez (141, TF, 22-3), Carter Manley (184, dec., 4-2), Josh Cortez (197, dec., 3-2) and Dezi Johnsen (285, MD, 13-5.

Suffering losses for OKWU were: Zeke Wheeler (125, fall), Chad Sakamoto (149, fall), Andrew Mahoney (157, fall), Dregen Murray (165, fall), Jaden Welden (174, MD).

Last weekend, OKWU competed at Doane in a Nebraska tourney.

Following are the Eagles' records, excluding byes: Jake Stanton (125, 2-2), Colton Jackson (125, 1-2), Zeke Wheeler (125, 1-2), Lane Cosby (133, 0-2), Kolby Encinas (133, 0-2), Donte Lopez (141, 3-2), Chad Sakamoto (149, 4-3).

Lopez finished fifth (open) and Sakamoto came in sixth (amateur) in their weight divisions.

Note: Manley is a Bartlesville High graduate and true freshman.
