Grass fire north of Hygiene extinguished

Mar. 18—A grass fire that started Saturday afternoon just northeast of Hygiene has been extinguished.

Anne Reid, PIO for Lyons Fire Protection District, said her department was dispatched to a fire in the 7900 block of Colo. 66 at 1:13 p.m. The fire appears to have started from a controlled burn nearby, said Reid, and wind may have played a part.

Multiple agencies responded to the fire, including the Hygiene, Lyons and Lefthand Fire Protection Districts.

According to Russ Benzel, assistant fire chief for Hygiene Fire Protection District, the fire was extinguished at 2:10 p.m. and all responding agencies were cleared around 3 p.m.
