Graystone Eye welcomes new ophthalmologist
Dec. 7—Graystone Eye welcomes Dr. Sheila Garcia Santana as the newest eye care provider to the practice.
Santana is originally from Puerto Rico where she completed her undergraduate studies and medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico.
Her internship was fulfilled at Harvard Medical School in Boston, followed by her ophthalmology residency at the Boston University School of Medicine.
She then attended Yale University School of Medicine where she completed a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery.
Most recently, she completed a master's degree in public health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a focus on Leadership in Practice.
Her work experience consists of five years with Retina Associates of Kentucky and three years with Retina Institute of the Carolinas in Charlotte.
Santana is certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an active fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
She'll be joining Graystone on a part-time basis for the next year to assist with the high volume of retina patients and the goal of becoming full time by 2025.
