GRCC police investigating sexual assault

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Community College Police Department has issued an alert saying they are investigating a sexual assault that happened Saturday afternoon.

GRCC police said that between 1 p.m. and 1:15 p.m., the victim was approached by a man on the street in the area of Library Street NE and Library Place NE. He threatened the victim with force and took the victim to the elevator stairwell of Parking Ramp A. On Monday, GRCC police told News 8 that neither the victim nor the suspect are affiliated with the college.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 50 years old, wearing a black stocking cap, a tan and brown hunting jacket and light jeans. On Sunday morning, GRCC Police said the suspect had not been identified.

“The safety and well-being of our campus community are of utmost importance to us. We want to remind everyone to please be vigilant and take precautions to ensure your safety. We encourage you to utilize GRCC Police Safe Walk service, travel in groups when possible, walk in well-lit areas, and be aware of your surroundings,” GRCC Alert said in an email.
