Great Bridge’s Trey Marrion finishes as state golf runner-up; Jamestown places second as a team

Great Bridge’s Trey Marrion shot a 4-under-par 68 to place second in the Class 4 golf state championships Tuesday at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon.

Marrion finished strongly on the back nine with four birdies to finish one shot behind the champion, Blacksburg’s Jake Albert.

Great Bridge tied for third in the team standings with Loudoun County. Blacksburg won the team title ahead of runner-up Jamestown, which had won the crown the past seasons.

Jamestown’s Austin Smith carded a 3-under 69 to place third. The Eagles’ Mason Eggleston and Ryan Leach tied for 14th.

Class 6

Rebecca Sun of Ocean Lakes was the top local finisher in the Class 6 state championships at Williamsburg National Golf Club.

Sun carded a 4-over 76 to tie for 21st among individuals, while Kellam’s Matthew Tigrett tied for 24th with a 5-over 77.

Langley won the team title (1-under 287) ahead of second-place Lake Braddock (299) and third-place James River (300).
