Joe Wilkinson’s bottom cake rose to the top of the class in tonight’s Great Celebrity Bake Off, winning him the booty of a Star Baker apron.

The comedian was the surprise winner of the celebrity baking contest’s fourth heat, coming first in all three challenges despite giving off an air of chaotic incompetence.

But it was his Showstopper that really wowed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith – tasked with representing his favourite hobby in cake, Wilkinson chose to make a tribute to his lifetime aim of being named Rear of the Year.

He baked a pair of chocolate-orange-flavoured tattooed buttocks encased in a green thong, which Hollywood called delicious and highly impressive.

Wilkinson’s bottom cake has made him a 2019 Star Baker alongside fellow comedian Russell Brand, whose biscuit representation of his wife’s vagina saw him crowned with the title in the first heat.

Leith said of Wilkinson: “He looked like a professional baker. It’s quite upsetting really that you can learn that fast. It took me years.”

Wilkinson managed to avoid any bum notes in the first two rounds, too, offering up well-baked mint gherkin biscuits and chocolate crumpets that outshone his competitors’ efforts.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Paxman discovered that baking was a good deal tougher than his day job as a tough interviewer, battling against collapsing cakes and icing explosions with his creations including his dog, Derek, in biscuit form.

In fact, despite being the worst baker in the tent, Paxman kept viewers entertained with a series of mishaps and kitchen disasters.

Georgia “Toff” Toffolo created a Showstopper that looked sure to haunt her Made in Chelsea co-stars’ dreams as she speared the heads of the likes of Jamie Laing on cocktail sticks after running out of time to complete bodies for the figures on her edible nightclub cake.

She also didn’t find the time to make any clothes for a figure of herself, leaving a lumpy-looking Toff naked on the dancefloor, and Hollywood described it as “like a horror scene where everyone’s been pierced”.

Ex-Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay gave Wilkinson a run for his money in the final round with a near-professional attempt at a carrot cake decorated to commemorate the Suffragette movement, but failed to fight back from coming last in the Technical.

Presenter Sandi Toksvig made a bid to crown Toff the champion, saying “I’d make her the winner, I love that cake”, while her co-host Noel Fielding collapsed in giggles over the shambolic nightclub scene.
