This concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the historic Grove Theater, 123 Randolph Road, Oak Ridge. As with all the Community Band events, there is no admission fee.

After a very successful concert in March at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville, the Community Band is back in Oak Ridge for the April 23 performance. There has been a recent change in venue for this concert, and the Band wants to assure the public that the correct location for the “Great Escapades” performance is the Grove Theater.

Under the direction of band conductor Shaun Salem, the Community Band comprises musicians of all ages and is dedicated to delivering high quality performances that will make the April 23 program a special and enjoyable event for all ages. Among the pieces the audience will hear are P. Marquina’s “Espana Cani,” Jaime Texidor’s “Amparito Roca,” Mitch Leigh’s beautiful “Man of La Mancha,” and John Philip Sousa’s “El Capitan” march. The Band will also perform Richard Saucedo’s “Dreamsong” with pianist London Asquith, who is a senior at Oak Ridge High School. Another number on the program will be Claude Smith’s “Emperata Overture.”

The Community Band meets every Thursday evening at the First Baptist Church for rehearsals, and interested area musicians who would like to join the band can call 865-202-2773 for information. The public can access the band website at www.orcb.org and keep up with band current events on its Facebook page, www.facebook.com/OakRidgeCommunityBand.
