The house, dating from 1686, was considered the greatest estate in Quincy during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was a meeting place for patriots such as Josiah Quincy, John Hancock and John Adams and the childhood home of Dorothy Quincy Hancock, cousin of Abigail Adams and later the wife of John Hancock, president of the First Continental Congress and first governor of Massachusetts.

The Dorothy Quincy Homestead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was purchased in 1904 and historically restored by the National Society of Colonial Dames. It is owned and operated in partnership with the state Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Groups may request a private tour on a date of their choice by calling 617-742-3190 or emailing dames@nscdama.org.

A $10 donation is suggested. For more information, visit the Homestead’s website, nscdama.org/quincy-homestead.
