'A great honor': Trump exits the White House

"It's a great honor, the honor of a lifetime,” Trump said as he headed out of the White House for the last time.

Trump's decision not to attend his successor's inauguration marked a break with decades of tradition and came after two months of legal challenges by his campaign to attempt to overturn his loss in the 2020 presidential election. It also came on the heels of violent and deadly protests by his supporters on Capitol Hill.

Trump is the first outgoing president since Andrew Johnson in 1869 to skip the Inauguration Day ceremony marking the formal transfer of power. Trump's vice president Mike Pence is attending Biden's inauguration.
