Great Lakes 8 East names All-Conference football teams

EASTERN UPPER PENINSULA – The Great Lakes 8 East Conference recently released its All-Conference selections, which consisted of first and second team offenses and defenses as well as honorable mentions.

The Munising Mustangs made a clean sweep of the individual awards as Josiah Peramski took home the Offensive Player of the Year, and Jacob Mattson was named Defensive Player of the Year.  Matt Mattson was selected as the Coach of the Year, and the Mustangs were chosen as the conference Team of the Year.

The first team offense starts with quarterback Kane Nebel of Munising.  Peramski joins him in the backfield as a running back along with Pickford's Brayden Altoft.  Matthew Rahilly of Newberry and Carter Johnson of Rapid River make up the wide receiving corps, while Cam Peterson was selected as a hybrid offensive player.  Riley Murk of Munising, Blake Doke of Newberry, and Ty Norris of Cedarville-Detour were selected on the offensive line.

On the defensive side, Zach Burton of Newberry, Mattson of Munising, Garrett Osborne of Pickford, and Mike Perkins of Cedarville-Detour were named as first-team linebackers.  Eli Sprague of Rudyard and Ashton Wymer of Munising were chosen as defensive linemen.  Peterson of Rudyard and Gabe Luck of Newberry were tabbed as first-team defensive ends, while Marco Juarez of Newberry, Aiden Bickel of Rudyard, and Nebel of Munising make up the defensive backfield of the first team.  Miciah Peramski was selected as the first-team defensive hybrid player.

For the special teams unit, Jacob Nolan of Rudyard was named the first-team kicker, while Cason Smith of Cedarville-Detour was selected as the first-team punter.  Bickel of Rudyard was selected as the return man.

The second team has Smith of the Islanders as the quarterback, while Juarez of Newberry and Perkins of Cedarville-Detour were selected as the running backs.  Bickel of the Bulldogs and Hossak Sweeney of Cedarville-Detour are the wide receivers.  Pickford Panther Seth Miller and Superior Central Cougar Lucas Swetich were both chosen as hybrid offensive players.  Grady Smith of Rapid River, Osborne of Pickford, and Jesse Zeeryp of Rudyard were named as offensive linemen.

For the defense, Carter Johnson of Rapid River, Perrson McKeage of Engadine, and Emmett Vining of Superior Central were chosen as linebackers, while Ethan Pavey and Hayden Rader of Pickford were voted in as defensive linemen. Altoft of Pickford and Reagan Bowerman of Munising were selected as defensive ends.  In the defensive backfield, Cale Maciag of Pickford, and Connor Hall of Engadine were the selections, while Newberry's Rahilly was named as the defensive hybrid player.

The second-team kicker was Hunter Cameron of Engadine, while the second-team return man is Wyatt Kulik of Superior Central.

Offensive Honorable Mentions went to Newberry quarterback Gavin Nutkins, offensive lineman Jonah Frizzel-Brown of Rapid River, offensive lineman Cully Trzeciak of Munising, offensive lineman Ron Papin of Cedarville-Detour, quarterback Trey Lynn of Brimley, running back Hayden O'Neil of Engadine, offensive lineman Hayden Rader of Pickford, running back Damon MacDowell of Rudyard, and offensive lineman Jason Kanerva of Superior Central.

Honorable Mentions on the defensive side of the ball went to defensive back Jacob Mohar of Newberry, defensive end Trzeciak of Munising, linebackers Eddie Forslund of Rapid River, Smith of Cedarville-Detour, and Owen Johnson of Brimley.  Defensive backs receiving honorable mention include Dylan McMillan of Rudyard, and Miller of Pickford.  Kaeden Sistrunk of Engadine was named at defensive end, and Eli Penney of Superior Central was named on the defensive line.
