BAY HARBOR — While the fifth anniversary season for the Great Lakes Center for the Arts is wrapping up, the center has announced upcoming events through Oct. 22.

This fall season, New Orleans’ Grammy-nominated artist Trombone Shorty along with his bad Orleans Avenue will be taking the stage Sunday, Sept. 4. Tickets range from $47 to $97.

Less than a week later, Mitch Albom will be having a live talkback about his book “Tuesdays with Morrie.” A play with the same name will be performed Sept. 9-11. Albom’s talkback is scheduled for Sept. 10 after the performance.

Michael Russotto, left, and Cody Nickell are the stars of "Tuesdays with Morrie," the play adapted from Mitch Albom's book which is playing in six theaters in Michigan beginning Aug. 10.

Proceeds from the Sept. 10 performance go towards Albom’s Have Faith Haiti Scholarship Fund.

The play is being put on to celebrate the book’s 25th anniversary. Tickets range from $37 to $77.

Sept. 22, the center is opening its doors to celebrate the television premiere of “MICHIGAN: An American Portrait.” The film celebrates the state of Michigan — its legacy and history.

Footage is compiled from more than 80 locations in the state, highlighting the state’s diversity, beauty and innovation.

Tickets for the hour-long film range from $10 to $50. Proceeds go towards the center’s Next Gen Program and the Crooked Tree Arts Center’s Classroom Docent Tour Program.

The next day, Sept. 23, Sara and Sean Watkins take the stage to celebrate the release of their third studio album while perfuming as Watkins Family Hour. The two make up two-thirds of the group Nickel Creek.

Tickets for the performance range from $25 to $45.

On Oct. 22, the Vienna Boys Choir will be set to perform at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts. The choir is a world-renowned children’s choir and is among the oldest music organizations in the world. The group was founded July 7, 1498.

The choir was originally set to come in 2020, but the show was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets cost between $37 and $62.

“It is an incredible opportunity to be able to host such unique and amazing talents right here in Northern Michigan,” said the center’s executive director Marie Klopf in a press release. “In addition to the events we present, we are honored to collaborate with arts organizations in the area and even offer special premieres for some of the world’s biggest artists, we’re also honored to be able to premiere both a film and stage play next month.”
