Great music, and fireworks, will light up the holidays at the beach

If the tourist crowds last weekend were any indication, local beach towns should see massive crowds again this year for the Independence Day weekend. Various municipalities will have fireworks displays on different nights (as opposed to just Monday, July 4).

There will also be concert events highlighting various genres to please the masses.

In Dewey Beach, the Bottle & Cork nightclub has a two-nighter scheduled this week for country star Justin Moore. While tickets were expected to be available at the door Thursday, June 30 ($62), the Friday, July 1 show has sold out in advance.

Looking ahead to next week at the Cork, regional-turned-national hard rock heroes KIX will raise the roof Thursday, July 7 ($28 in advance, $30 on the day of the show). Doors open at 8 p.m. for all of this summer’s Cork concerts, which usually wrap up by 11 p.m. or so.

In Ocean City, the Cowboy Coast Saloon’s annual Throwback Thursday concert series will continue at 9 p.m. on June 30 with music by former Beastie Boys turntable master DJ Hurricane ($10). Other upcoming Thursday headliners include country singer Colt Ford on July 21 ($25), and hard-rock group Buckcherry on July 28 (also $25).

Elsewhere in OC, Seacrets will present its annual appearance by Jamaican reggae-rap favorite Collie Buddz at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5 ($15). Country-rock touring act Shane Smith & the Saints will play Seacrets at 9 p.m. Monday, July 11 ($15).

In Selbyville, the Freeman Arts Pavilion will present EagleMania, which bills itself as “The World’s Greatest Eagles Tribute,” at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 1 ($25). Pat Benatar & Neil Geraldo will return to hit you with their best shot at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 ($49 to $79).

Salisbury R&B vocalist Jay Copeland, who made Delmarva proud during his recent run of "American Idol" appearances on television, wowed the crowd at Freeman last week as the opening act for Patti LaBelle. Local fans will have another chance to see him when he plays a free outdoor concert in Ocean City. The show will take place at Northside Park at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5.

In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub emerged from the pandemic with a focus on acoustic happy-hour music. It will use the holiday weekend to re-launch its last-night format with An Evening With Braxton Hicks from 9-11 p.m. on Saturday, July 2.

The alternative rock band is led by spouses Carrie Baith Bush and Bill Bush (full disclosure: in addition to being your humble columnist, I am also their bassist) will play original music from its most recent CD, titled “Extraordinary Girl.” Admission is free.
