Great Plains Senior Tour wraps golf season in Mitchell

Sep. 27—A total of 146 golfers — 73 teams of two — took to Lakeview Golf Course on Sept. 22 for the Great Plains Senior Tour Finale's two-man scramble.

The tournament was open to any male golfers age 50 or older who had placed in a Great Plains Senior Tour event earlier in the year. Events were held throughout southeastern South Dakota and northwest Iowa from mid-May to early September in two-man and four-man scramble formats, which allowed them to qualify for the Tournament of Champions event on Sept. 22 at Lakeview. The tournament included a meal, prizes and two mulligans per player. Eight flights were contested, with placewinners awarded to the top-four finishers in each flight.

In the championship flight, Rick Dunlap and Jason Sudenga shot a round of 62 to claim the title by four shots, defeating second-place finishers Mark Buche and Brad Buche, who shot 66. Jeff McEntee and Tom Young shot 66 and finished in third place after a tiebreaker and Joe Schlimgen and Rex Crockett shot 67 and finished in fourth place.

Second flight: 1. Rich Dorzak/John Polreis, 70; 2. Greg Anderson/Mike Dullman, 71 (back-nine 34 was tiebreaker); 3. Dean Bullerman/Ray Hoogeveen, 71; 4. Gary Kortan/Jay Weber, 71.
