🐺 Great Wolf Lodge in Perryville, Maryland to open next year

This isn't a "What's Going There in Delaware" item per se, but located just about a half hour drive from the Delaware border Great Wolf Lodge's next resort could be an easy getaway for many First Staters.

The Perryville, Maryland water park resort will be the company's largest resort yet. It will have a 126,000-square-foot indoor waterpark with tube slides, raft rides and pools, an entertainment center, several restaurants, event space and 700 suites.

After a series of pandemic-related delays, Great Wolf Lodge broke ground on the project last week. The company expects the resort to open in mid-to-late 2023.

Perryville officials first announced the project in late 2018 at an estimated cost of $200 million. Great Wolf Lodge now says the project will cost $250 million. The company plans to hire 850 people for the site once it opens.

The resort is being built off I-95 at a property known as the Chesapeake Overlook near the Susquehanna River. The only other building at the Chesapeake Overlook is Hollywood Casino.

“Being a short driving distance from several key markets makes Perryville an ideal location for a Great Wolf Lodge," CEO Murray Hennessy said in a statement.

🏪 Tenants announced for Barley Mill Plaza and The Grove at Newark

As construction of the mixed-use projects in Greenville and Newark progresses, tenant announcements continue to trickle out.

Del Pez, a full-service Mexican restaurant, is coming to The Grove between Library Avenue and Marrows Road in Newark. The concept comes from the Hakuna Hospitality Group, which operates Santa Fe Mexican Grill on Newark's Main Street among other restaurants. The group previously had a Del Pez on Newark's Main Street where the Peach Blossom Eatery is currently located. There is also a Del Pez at the Wilmington Riverfront.

kaffe KARMA is a coffee shop with evening yoga classes heading to Barley Mill Plaza at Lancaster Pike and Route 100 in Greenville. It's one of several tenants moving into the retail spaces adjacent to Wegmans.
