In a rematch from the regular season, Lakota West once again got the best of Princeton, besting their 31-7 victory from earlier in the season. In the first meeting, the Firebirds used a balanced attack to win; in the playoffs, it was all about the ground game. Mitch Bolden had 84 yards and two touchdowns, and Trent Lloyd rushed for 64 yards and a score. Vikings leading rusher Deandre Rutherford actually ran for negative yardage, while R.J. West was held to 52 passing yards. Lakota West moves on to face Elder next week, one of two GMC-GCL South matchups.

With three touchdowns on the night, it’s hard to believe Trey Cornist had less than 100 rushing yards. He ended the night with 93, but Vance George carried the Warriors with 271 yards through the air. His two touchdown passes went for 62 and 55 yards to Javion Bostic and Tra’mar Harris. Ross accrued 198 yards on the ground, led by Emory Severance’s 82. Riley Caldwell accounted for two of the Rams’ touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving. In a rematch of a regular season thriller, the Warriors will face Kings next week, who are looking to avenge a 28-23 loss in week 7.

The top-ranked Badin Rams put in a full night’s work in just a quarter and a half as the Rams topped New Richmond 41-14. Scoring all 41 points in the first half, Badin had a restful night for its starters who didn’t play the full first half. The box score wouldn’t make that obvious, however. Rams quarterback Alex Ritzie was a perfect 11-11 for 174 yards and three touchdowns. Ritzie connected with Braedyn Moore on five passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns while Moore added a rushing score in two attempts. Carter Russo led the Rams on the ground with 105 yards on 12 rushes with a pair of touchdowns. Lem Grayson and Dominic Pate had interceptions for Badin. Behind quarterback A.J. Metzger, New Richmond had 374 yards of offense, actually outgaining Badin 374-327.

C.J. Hester became just the third player in Cincinnati high school football history to eclipse 100 career touchdowns, scoring three to lead Wyoming past Springfield Shawnee. He finished the night with 151 rushing yards, bringing his season total to 2,443. D.J. Gray led the Cowboys on defense with two interceptions as Wyoming takes its unblemished record into the third round of the Division IV playoffs.

After a rough regular season, the McNicholas Rockets have found their stride when it matters the most. Ben Bobo first catch of the game saw him break the school record for all-time receptions, while his brother Braden threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns. Ty Snyder and Ethan Gardner were the recipients of Bobo’s two long scoring throws, and each finished with 78 receiving yards. Eaton, who totaled 138 yards of total offense, couldn’t get past a second GCL CoEd opponent after beating Fenwick last week.

The Walton-Verona Bearcats took a five-game winning streak into the playoffs and extended it to six with a win over Newport. Jackson Smith accounted for both of the Bearcat touchdowns while also throwing for 74 yards. Ben Tiepe led the grounds crew with 76 yards and Max Montgomery hauled in three passes for 40 yards. Gavin Hunter sealed the victory, tackling Mykell Martin for a safety with one minute left. Martin did run for a touchdown that gave the Wildcats a brief lead, while Kyle Lee threw for 106 yards and an additional score.

Despite the winning record and the first round home game, the Holmes Bulldogs had their season ended to Bourbon County in the Class 4A playoffs. Bourbon County, who entered with three wins, outgained Holmes 381-197. The Bulldogs scored twice, first taking an 8-0 lead after a Curtez Hill score and an Emauryon Arnold conversion. In the third quarter trailing 14-8, Arnold had himself a touchdown to tie the game. The Colonels took over the rest of the way and ended by doubling up Holmes and advancing to the second round.

Scott couldn’t stop the Jackson Wasik-Max DeGraff connection as the two combined for 82 yards and three touchdowns to power Lexington Catholic past the Eagles. Lexington Catholic only needed 284 yards of offense, thanks to 135 yards worth of kickoff returns, including one for a touchdown by DeGraff. After a rough night offensively, the Eagles did get on the board thanks to a 12 yard reception by Nolan Hunter.

The Colonels began their Class 5A playoffs with a win over the visiting Warhawks. As he’s been doing all season, Owen Leen led Covington Catholic with 88 yards on the ground. The Colonels grossed 131 rushing yards and found the end zone with three runs, but set themselves up nicely with 198 passing yards. The Colonels will see Frederick Douglass, coming off of a 50-0 shutout of Conner, in round two.

The Connor Cougars ended their season with a 2-9 record, bowing out in the first round of the KHSAA playoffs. Frederick Douglass marched to victory through the air and on the ground, punctuating their victory with two 59-yard touchdowns as well as a 38-yard interception return early in the game. Dion Abernathy led the Cougars with 55 rushing yards, who netted just 36 yards on the ground as a team.

Traveling on the road to Scott County, the Cooper Jaguars looked upset minded with a 14-7 lead after a quarter. That’s when Scott County unleashed its running game and big play chances to score five-straight touchdowns and seven of the game’s eight final scores. Cooper connected with Cole Henry for a 63-yard score to open the game before O’Hara ended the quarter with a six-yard dash and a lead. Scott County’s Jacob Fryman then scored two quick touchdowns for a lead. The lead quickly grew to a 42-14 before the Jags could respond again, but that didn’t come until midway in the third quarter. The Cardinals 524 yards of offense against Cooper, including 436 from the ground. Ellis Hugely and Thomas Feickert had 165 and 155 yards respectively while each scoring once. Fryman had 87 yards and four touchdowns.
