Greater Havre de Grace Museum Association launches summer adventure

Jul. 26—Seven museums in the Greater Havre de Grace Museum Association have launched their inaugural summer museum adventure.

"Our main goal with this project is to encourage area residents, in particular, to discover the amazing resources covering history, culture entertainment and so much more right in their own backyard," said Joanne Healey, executive director of the Lock House Museum.

Adventurers can visit several museums in one day by hopping aboard the city's new trolley, the Tide, which stops near the five museums located in Havre de Grace's historic district, according to a news release.

"Since the Tide service began last month, it has been a huge hit with both tourists and residents," said Lauri Orzewicz, manager of tourism for the city.

The participating museums are: Bahoukas Antiques & Beer Muzeum, Concord Point Lighthouse & Keeper's House Museum, Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, Hosanna School Museum, Lock House Museum, Steppingstone Farm Museum and Washington Street Books Entertainment Museum.

Residents and guests who visit six of the seven museums through Sept.15 will get a museum passport stamped to document their experience.

After touring the six of the museums, guests can drop off their completed passport at the last museum they visit, or they can drop it off at the Havre de Grace Visitor Center, 450 Pennington Avenue.

"Shoppers in Havre de Grace are always excited to find out how many great museums are located in Havre de Grace and the surrounding area, and even more amazed at the arrival of three more, in the near future, with the opening of The Havre de Grace Museum in Harmer's Town Art Center, The First Call Paranormal & Oddities Museum, and the return of the Skipjack Martha Lewis," said John Klisavage, owner of Washington Street Books & Entertainment Museum.

The Greater Havre de Grace Museum Association is a network of museums located in or near Havre de Grace. Its mission is to enhance and strengthen each member institution through collaboration and promotion of the educational and recreational opportunities offered by each museum.

Along with the seven museums participating in the summer museum adventure, association member include :the Havre de Grace Colored School Museum and Cultural Center, the Havre de Grace Museum in Harmer's Town Art Center, the Moore Family Homestead (sponsored by the Historic Havre de Grace Foundation) and the Skipjack Martha Lewis.
