Greater New Orleans schools to close amid winter weather

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Several Greater New Orleans schools are expected to announce closures ahead of the winter weather that will impact the area starting Monday night.

Orleans Parish

  • The Archdiocese of New Orleans will close its New Orleans school campuses on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Individual schools will decide whether to hold virtual instruction or cancel classes. St. Katherine Drexel will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and Wednesday, Jan. 17.

  • All Hynes Charter Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 16, for expected winter weather conditions. The closure includes Hynes-Parkview, Hynes-Lakeview and Hynes-UNO.

  • Officials with the Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools announced Audubon Schools; Benjamin Franklin Elementary, Middle and High schools; Discovery Schools including Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy and Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy; Warren Easton Charter High School; and all Young Audience Charter Schools including Lawrence D. Crocker, Little YACs, Kate Middelton and Burnmaster will be closed Tuesday.

  • Einstein Charter Schools including Sherwood Forest, Village De L’est, Einstein Middle School and Sarah T. Reed will have virtual or asynchronous classes.

  • All International School of Louisiana campuses will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • All Morris Jeff Community School campuses will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School “Sci High” will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • Robert Russa Moton Charter School will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • NOLA Public Schools is advising schools to close Tuesday, Jan. 16, for potentially hazardous winter weather conditions.

  • The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy campus and buildings will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, for expected winter weather conditions.

  • InspireNOLA Charter Schools including Alice M. Harte Charter School, Andrew H. Wilson Charter School, Dwight D. Eisenhower Charter School, Pierre A. Capdau S.T.E.A.M. Charter School, Edna Karr High School, Eleanor McMain Secondary School, and McDonogh 35 Senior High School will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to expected winter weather conditions.

  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to expected winter weather. All after-school activities scheduled for Tuesday are also canceled.

  • All KIPP New Orleans Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to winter weather.

  • ReNEW schools including ReNEW Laurel, ReNEW Dolores T. Aaron, ReNEW Schaumburg, ReNEW Therapeutic Program and ReNEW Early Childhood Center will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • All three Lycee Francais schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to winter weather conditions.

  • Southern University New Orleans will have virtual classes on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • University of Holy Cross will hold virtual classes on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • Loyola University will hold classes online on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • University of New Orleans will hold virtual classes on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • Algiers Charter schools including, Martin Behrman Charter School Academy of Creative Arts and Sciences and L. B. Landry High School will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to winter weather. Students will have an asynchronous learning day and after-school activities will be canceled.

  • St. George’s Episcopal School is closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

  • Louise S. McGehee School and McGehee’s Little Gate are closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

St. Tammany Parish

  • All St. Tammany Parish Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Schools will reopen with normal schedules on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

St. Charles Parish

  • All St. Charles Parish Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Campuses are expected to reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

St. John the Baptist Parish

  • All St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools will hold classes remotely on Tuesday, Jan.16. Normal classes will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Tangipahoa Parish

  • All schools within the Tangipahoa Parish School System will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16. School district leaders said they will let the community know before 6 p.m. on Tuesday if class will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

  • Southeastern Louisiana University will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16 due to winter weather.

Hancock County

  • The Hancock County School District will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Staff and students will return to campus on Wednesday, Jan. 15 with free dress.

Plaquemines Parish

  • All schools within the Plaquemines Parish School Board will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 16, with plans to reopen Wednesday, pending weather conditions.

  • Belle Chasse Academy will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, with plans to reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Washington Parish

  • Schools in the Washington Parish School System will have virtual classes on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

St. James Parish

  • All schools within the St. James Parish School System will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, for expected winter weather. Officials said schools plan to reopen Wednesday, Jan. 17, pending weather conditions.

St. Bernard Parish

  • All St. Bernard Parish Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to winter weather conditions with plans to reopen Wednesday, Jan. 17.

  • Nunez Community College will have virtual classes on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Jefferson Parish

  • All Jefferson Parish Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, for winter weather conditions. All after-school activities will also be canceled Tuesday.

  • Jefferson RISE Charter School will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to expected winter weather conditions.
