What is your greatest fear? New report shows biggest phobias in NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – What is your deepest fear?

A new report set out to answer that question by constructing a list of the top 10 phobias among people in North Carolina.

BetCarolina.com analyzed Google searches to reveal what were the most searched phobias over the past year.

Ranking at the top of the list was the fear of clustered small holes, otherwise known as trypophobia, with 177,600 yearly searches.

The fear of deep water (also known as thalassophobia) came in second place, while the fear of vomiting (also known as emetophobia) popped up in third. Meanwhile, the fear of confined spaces and spiders rounded out the top five.

The rest of the top 10 included the fear of heights, large objects, germs, being stared at, as well as clowns.

To find the most searched phobias, researchers said they pulled a list of the 50 most common across America, and then utilized a keyword research tool that showed how often each fear was Googled over the last 12 months.

The final search figure is the calculation of multiple keywords focusing on each phobia.
