Greece starts to send BMP-1 IFVs to Ukraine, and in return will receive modern Marder

“It’s very important that the long-awaited shipment of BMP-1 armored infantry vehicles from Greece to Ukraine has already begun,” he said at a press conference following the negotiations with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, in Kyiv.

“They (the vehicles) will soon arrive in our army and will instantly strengthen our country’s combat and defense capabilities.”

Kuleba added that Greece is also aware of Kyiv’s request for the strengthening of the country’s air defense system and will react to it.

In mid-September, the Ministry of National Defence of Greece agreed with Germany on the transfer of 40 Soviet BMP-1 IFVs to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In their place, Greece will receive upgraded Marder IFVs from Germany.

Earlier a spokesman for the Greek government confirmed that Greece would transfer about 100 BMP-1 IFVs to Ukraine.
