Greece Braces for More Bad Weather After Floods Hit

Heavy rain and thunderstorms were forecast to hit parts of Greece on October 15, a day after a storm flooded Athens and other areas, including the fire-ravaged island of Evia.

This footage, by Kostas Raditsas, shows flooding outside an elementary school in Chiliomodi, a village in eastern Corinthia.

“There are serious meteorological indications that we will have a worsening of the dangerous weather phenomenon,” Climate Crisis Minister Christos Stylianidis said on Thursday, according to a Google translation of his remarks. He announced several emergency measures, including the closure of schools in Attica, Evia, Halkidiki, Corfu, Samos and Ikaria.

The weather service expected the storm to weaken later Friday after hitting the northwest in the morning and afternoon. Credit: Kostas Raditsas via Storyful
