Greek wildfire leaves major damage in its wake

Farms were left destroyed with remains of burnt animals amongst the rubble near the small village of Lasdikas.

Greek authorities on Wednesday (August 4) ordered villages near ancient Olympia to be evacuated and the blazes continued to rage in the area on Thursday (August 5) night.

Like elsewhere in Europe, Greece has been grappling with extreme weather this summer and a protracted heatwave - its worst in 30 years - has sparked simultaneous wildfires in several parts of the country.
