Green Bay man accused of secretly recording boy at YMCA faces over 20 charges of child pornography

GREEN BAY – A Green Bay man faces child pornography charges related to multiple incidents of secretly recording underage children.

Michael Winfree, 48, is charged in Brown County Circuit Court with 20 counts of possessing child pornography, one count of child sexual exploitation and four counts of capturing an intimate representation of a child under 18 years old.

According to the criminal complaint, one recording was taken in the Greater Green Bay West Side YMCA locker room and depicts a 7-year-old boy changing clothes, while other incidents occurred elsewhere.

In June, the Greater Green Bay YMCA president and CEO Sean Elliott sent a letter to YMCA members notifying them of the incident and stating that the person responsible had their membership terminated. Elliott also said the Greater Green Bay YMCA was working on the investigation with Green Bay police, and that no recording devices were found after a thorough search of the property, located at 601 Cardinal Lane in Howard.

Winfree's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 7.
