Green Bay Packers come home this weekend as Lambeau ticket prices drop, but road games remain pricey

GREEN BAY - Tickets prices for Lambeau Field games are beginning to reflect the Green Bay Packers' sagging fortunes, but road game prices reflect the better records of their opponents and the excitement of their own fans.

Five of the Packers' remaining eight opponents have winning records ― three of them lead their divisions and the other two are in second place. The average lowest get-in cost for two road opponents, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears, went up during the past week. Meanwhile, prices for three Packers home games over the next five weeks are lower. The Packers are 3-6 and lost their last five games.

First up are the Dallas Cowboys, who play at Lambeau Field at 3:25 p.m. Sunday. The average lowest price for the game, based on a survey of 10 secondary marketplaces, was $235 on Monday, down from $297 one week ago. Prices tend to retreat in the week before a game, but the $62 drop is perhaps more than normal. That said, $235 for a ticket is still a premium over the most expensive bowl seat in Lambeau, which tops out at $156.

As rivalries go, the Packers, with Aaron Rodgers as quarterback, have dominated the Cowboys as thoroughly as the Chicago Bears. Green Bay is 8-2 against the Cowboys since 2008.

The Cowboys are having a good year, sitting on a 6-2 record, but are in what is unexpectedly the toughest division in the NFC. The Philadelphia Eagles, at 8-0, are the NFL's only undefeated team, and the New York Giants are 6-2. The Giants and 4-5 Washington already defeated the Packers, and Philadelphia will host Green Bay on Nov. 27.

The Cowboys are coached by Mike McCarthy, who was the Packers' second-longest-serving coach, after Curly Lambeau, and second-winningest coach, also trailing Lambeau. McCarthy coached the Packers to a Super Bowl victory during the 2010 season, but was fired with four games remaining in the 2018 season. Sunday will be his first game at Lambeau Field since he and the team parted ways.

The average get-in price for the next game, a Thursday night contest against the Tennessee Titans, fell $46 during the past week, to $83. That's $40 less than the face-value price of the least-expensive bowl seats. That's a spectacularly low price for a game at Lambeau Field, but it has a lot going against it, including being a Gold package game on a week night. Gold package ticket holders hail mostly from southern Wisconsin, and with the Packers playing as they are, it becomes increasingly difficult to find local buyers who won't have a long drive after the game.

The Packers, who were beset with injuries in Sunday's 15-9 loss to the Detroit Lions, will have a much-needed 10 days off before traveling to Philadelphia for a prime-time Sunday night game against the Eagles. Philadelphia extended it's unbeaten streak with a 29-17 victory over the Houston Texans last week, and the lowest get-in price for the Packers game increased by $40, to $267. The price was $201 on Oct. 24 and $227 last week.

The game has little going for it in the eyes of Packers fans: It is three days after Thanksgiving, it's on a Sunday night, it's at the end of deer hunting season, and Philadelphia is one of the least-welcoming cities for opposing fans. Given all the negatives for traveling Packers fans, the price hike surely reflects the building excitement among Eagles fans.

It has been said that you can't call something a rivalry if only one team ever wins, but the Packers-Bears rivalry might be about to get a reboot. The Packers won the last seven games against the Bears and 25 of 30 since Aaron Rodgers became Green Bay's starting quarterback in 2008, but the fortunes of the teams appear to be going in opposite directions. Like the Packers, the Bears lost a close game on Sunday, but scored 32 points behind young quarterback Justin Fields, who had a stellar day. Fields threw three touchdown passes with no interceptions, and ran for 178 yards and one touchdown.

The Packers defeated the Bears 27-10 in the Lambeau Field home opener in September, but a lot has changed since then, none of it to Green Bay's advantage. Tickets for the noon game on Dec. 4 at Soldier Field were $214 on Monday, up $10 from last week.

The defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, who suffered a last-minute loss Sunday and are having as disappointing a season as the Packers, play a Monday night game in Lambeau Field on Dec. 19. The Packers will come off their bye week for the game. It is the first of three home games at Lambeau in the final four weeks. The exception is the Christmas Day game in Miami.

The Rams, who are 3-5, played in Green Bay twice in 2021, losing a playoff game in January and a regular-season game in November. The average get-in price Monday was $99, down from $118 in August.

Ticket prices

The following are secondary market ticket prices as of Monday.

For our look at Packers' tickets prices, we averaged the lowest ticket prices at 10 secondary market websites: Event USAGametimeGreen Bay Ticket Service, SeatGeekStubHubTicketIQTicketmasterTickPickTicket King and Vivid Seats.

Note that ticket marketplaces can add fees on top of listed prices, so actual costs might be higher.

Several websites offer standing room only tickets for Packers home games. The Packers have designated these tickets as "not available for resale," so buyers proceed at their own risk. If the ticket does not scan as valid, fans won't be admitted to the stadium, and their recourse for a refund is to contact the seller of the ticket.
